Soooo I was sitting around going DOOT DOOT DOOT and I wrote a thing. A dream-thing! A fic-thing. I honestly don't know if anyone wants to read such a thing but it's here if you want it. I usually get annoyed at such disclaimers but I'm not saying it sucks, I'm saying stories wherein all that happens is a character dreams tend to annoy me so I'm not sure why I wrote this. ANYWAY.

Untitled
Series: Transformers G1
Wordcount: 407
Rating: G
Summary: For millions of years, Skyfire dreamed.

***

In the ice, Skyfire dreamed.

He saw the infinite spiraling towers of Vos: sometimes stretching above and around him for as far as he could see, sometimes tiny pinpricks far below. The atmosphere was thicker than he thought it should be. It pressed in on him, cold as the space between stars. They were distant inhospitable points of light all around him, a thousand million glowing optics staring with disinterest. He tried to tremble but his body refused to hear him. He couldn't move.

Everything was still. Entropy prevailed, heat-death of the universe reaching for his laser core, his very spark. He groaned. Vos groaned with him, Starscream's aerie rocking slowly under his feet. The wounded city shook its inhabitants out of their home-spires and they filled the too-thick air, falling as if through water. Skyfire could see their open mouths. They made no noise. The aerie groaned again and gravity shifted, moved sideways, and he dropped out the sky-door as if it were down instead of sideways and he fell into the midst of a hundred thousand tetrajets and they pressed against him, around him, wailing silently as their home shook out its death throes. They crushed around him and he couldn't move and everything was dark and he shivered, cold in his very spark, colder than the endless Pit of the Unmaker's gut.

Things moved in the dark. They chittered and laughed, bit at his extremities until he bled, gnawed until he couldn't feel the pain of it any longer. He couldn't see what they were. Their eyes had no glow, blind and snuffling and black. Skyfire wept in terror. One giggled near his face, and he could hear it move - he could hear it skitter closer - its sensory bristles touched his cheek but his optic glow illuminated nothing and its teeth were so sharp

The light came.

It came and he did not see it come until it was already bright, and the creatures of the dark were no more, and he groaned for the pains of his body where they had bit. The light was blue and knew his name: it spoke to him so sweetly with a voice of warmth and comfort. Its hands soothed his hurts and he could see into it, he could see Starscream at its core.

"Starscream," he said, though his mind was glacial and his voice recalcitrant. "It's you. You rescued me."

Starscream smiled.

Oh my god that is so - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh D: It's so strange and lovely and creepy but - oh, Skyfire. My heart is breaking for him, because the idea that he did nothing but dream for 4 million years is both beautiful and horrible. It's not like he can wake up to escape.

*whimpers a bit* :(

Linked from merfilly, and oh, Skyfire, *honey*. Lord. He always breaks my heart, but this is even *worse*, and that paragraph about the blue light -- of all colors, *blue*, ow -- and that *Starscream's* voice is comfort. Oh, Skyfire, honey.

Yeah, I figured that was why, but still -- blue, given this particular color-coded fandom.

I could cope with Starscream-and-Skyfire *so much more* if they *weren't* each others' comfort and home and THING, ack ack ack, OH THEM. *hugs Skyfire, hides him from Starscream*

I want them to be happy and not-hurty together! But so many people do it WRONG, and I am like... 'yes, I share your ship, but come ON'.

Man, if the series had followed a logical progression of events, Skyfire would've been a dead mech -- you cannot *have* successful deserters, especially since he would've been such a *useful* one. Space-capable transport class! GO BUILD SOLAR COLLECTORS ON MERCURY. TAKE THE CONSTRUCTICONS; BUILD ANOTHER SPACE BRIDGE. But he left, and he lived, and if he can do it what's stopping anybody *else*... ?

Skyfire would totally smuggle him out. He'd let Starscream choose whether or not to go *back*, but Starscream rescued *him* once... let it be Starscream's choice whether to stay or go, but Skyfire would try. I WANT THIS AU.

Yes! They are my OTP and I adore them beyond reason and I want them to be happy and fluffy (as much as they can be, given, you know, *Starscream*) and sometimes sweet, but... but defection fics kind of make me Twitch. (Though nothing makes me twitch like the stories where Skyfire is all 'I AM SORRY I BETRAYED YOU AND STUCK WITH MY IDEALS' and then I am like '... okay, look, the 'Cons are more complicated than the show liked to say and *Starscream* considers Skyfire leaving a betrayal, obviously, but what the hell, why would *Skyfire*?') Give me sweetness! But do not give me OOC, internet.

I... yeeeeeeeeeeeeah. This is G1. It makes physics cry and beats up continuity and steals logic's lunch money.

YES THAT. He would absolutely threaten to go back no matter how happy he was, because if somebody *knows* you are happy it will eventually be removed, THIS IS HOW THINGS GO. And Skyfire would quietly be trusting and sweet and stubborn and be like 'I wouldn't stop you, but here, have some incentive to stay!'

THEY MAKE ME HAPPY IN MY SOUL.

It's possible I read this first paragraph aloud to Household so they could beam, I love it so. (I have read one defection fic that *worked* for me, and it worked because a) it was outside POV, and thus didn't have *Starscream's* thoughts about Changing For LOVE so much as it had one paragraph about Skyfire joining the Autobots and Starscream just kind of came with him; b) Starscream was still a nasty, petty, brutal jerk, it's just that Skyfire's *his* and Starscream's not letting him out of his sight again; and c) the story was actually about the politics of what would happen to Autobot morale and alliances with humans if the Decepticon second-in-command was allowed to join them.)

Yeah, I believe that too? It would take him a little while to get why Starscream considered it betrayal, because wtf you SHOT ME, but... but he'd hurt Starscream, and that is never acceptable, and he'd be sorry for the fact that it was necessary but he wouldn't be sorry he'd *done* it, if the distinction makes sense? And yeah, he didn't betray Starscream at all, as far as he's concerned. At which point Starscream starts shrieking at him.

Yeah, the ones that do them right are *so incredibly good*, but it's... so easy to do them wrong.

Yes! He knows it's selfish, knows it's wrong of him, but... but the one thing *left* to him, and Starscream was not always quite *this* bad (always petty, always malicious, always spiteful, but Skyfire remembers moments of generosity, Starscream's voice soft on his name and Starscream's fingers skimming gentle over his wings) and if he is safe -- if he is *safe*, then perhaps he will eventually relearn what safety means.

Yes. Yes, it does.

fdsjfdsjfdjafdsj OW OW OW OH THEM.

"Skyfire," he said slowly, "my level of vitriol is not an appropriate measure of my health."

"Appropriate, no," Skyfire agreed without pausing in his work. "Accurate, yes. Ah, there we go."

That is kind of beautiful and perfect, and aaaaaaaaaaaagh, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh, oh Starscream HONEY, oh, Skyfire, baby, *ow* -- I am sitting here in the library staring at the screen and wibbling.

I am also fond of that bit! Because he *does* know Starscream means it, but... but Skyfire accepted the likelihood of retribution when he snagged him. He has made his peace with the consequences of his actions; responding is inefficient. There is only the need to keep going.

I didn't read the story descrip, no worries, just the bit that ended with 'PFFFFT I think I hurt myself laughing.'

Here is the story! I like to amuse myself periodically by contemplating just when it is set and thus how far AU from canon it goes when.

If Skyfire had been 'Con from the beginning... yipe. He still would've defected eventually, it just would've hurt him more. He would've understood why the 'Cons were going 'this situation is untenable, we are STARVING, fuck you Overlord,' but... but not like this. They kill more than they save.

I am fond of it! Every so often I end up vaguely wanting to write the prequel of just how Starscream ended up defecting, but that would change some of what I *like* about it.

I... am never sure just what would have happened if Skyfire had never crashed. I don't think Starscream would've taken over Vos, which means the war probably would've started later and started *differently*, but it still would've *happened* -- of course, a lot of fanon posits that Starscream resents the Science Academy and Iacon in general for their (fanon, but plausible) response to him coming home sans partner, and with Skyfire there he has fewer reasons to resent Iacon.

Starscream was Lord of Vos in the G1 comics, more specifically Marvel UK.

I... yeeeeeeeeah, G1 and continuity give me a *headache*, because while I can buy *Starscream* being the type of scientist that would have been sent on FIND US ENERGON sorts of missions -- he strikes me as being chemical engineering type work, and Skyfire has always pinged me as xenobiology and/or biological engineering, which is why they would have worked well together afaik about the subjects. But Skyfire wouldn't be useful there, and he doesn't ask *any* questions about the war that I would expect if it had been brewing -- what finally sparked it, who ended up picking which side, etc.

But that also doesn't mesh with the comic canon, in which it's kinda-sorta Starscream starting the war and Vos and Tarn and rivalry and... yeah. *hands*

Mm, yeah, the comics had a totally different character type for Jetfire, and a massively different backstory, but I *think* Starscream still had that scientist background? And depending on how famous he'd been, I could buy it?

Most of the comics background I pull in is actually Megatron and Ravage -- I *like* Ravage being an ancient mech, and I adore Megatron being tied to a black hole as the source of his power. I can take or leave Starscream.

And yes, that's my usual preferred fanwank as well -- it was just before their final falling-out, but it was just before as *they* think of it, probably at least three vorns before the whispers even started getting to a *murmur* that Megatron could eventually tap.

Oh, fff. This is so lovely and heartbreaking for knowing what's coming. ;___; Aaahhh Skyfire D: (Also that dream sequence thing is pretty amazingly unsettling, and yet trying to match up 'outer' events, sort of... makes perfect sense? Lol, I don't even know, but... like, what kind of weird dreams would he have when they're sort of poking about his processor and watching his memories...?)

Ahaha yeah. There was a comic addressing that, though it was in Japanese... but I sort of picked up the meaning that they watched some memories Starscream didn't really want them to see~ XD

Aaaaahhh I hate when that happens. D: Especially when I don't notice them until months later.

Bahaha oh god. XD I love all of that artist's comics. (I think it's Heinel...?) I sometimes say to my friend studying Japanese in school "HEYY want some free practice that'll solve some burning curiosity of mine? |D" Or if I'm feeling really silly, she's given me permission (in these words) to say "HEY STAEHLI CAN YOU READ THESE SQUIGGLES FOR ME? :D"

Eeek oh man. D: It's like how I twitch if I see stuff like StarScream or SkyFire or jgkafdfsa Aaagh. I feel picky as hell but man, sometimes -just sometimes- I just can't get past it. |D

Oh god, I hate pairing-smush names. Starfire... just leads my mind to Teen Titans. Ahaha. And ffff I use nicknames myself because I'm a lazy shit sometimes but lolol. In fic? Gah. I mean yeah, in dialogue, but I'm hoping it is obvious there, and that Sideswipe calls Sunstreaker Sunny, Dandelion, Buttercup, Sunflower, etc etc etc JUST TO PISS HIM OFF And then Bluestreak picks up on "Sunny" and Sunny's like FFFU but Bluestreak's just too cute, ahaha. /shot

The best pairing abbreviation is AS/SS though. AAASS. (Acid Storm/Sunstorm)

Ahaha, I know there's some here, but everything else is sorta potluck I think, ahaha. |D

Oh god, ugh. D: I don't see most anyone calling him by a nickname unless it's to piss him off, honestly. |D I'm not sure how many bots idly want to play with fire like that, ahaha. (Several times with a friend, we've had the twins get into the littlest of spats, because they have nothing else to do. "[blahblahblah] And stop calling me that." "But you call me Sides, why can't I call you Sunny~? /being a total ass/" "FIND SOMETHING LESS STUPID-SOUNDING TO CALL ME. >8|" "Whatever you say Sunny~" "/rageexplode/")

Ghetto edit: "Lemon Drop" was one of the more ridiculous ones and I'm pretty sure Sunstreaker was too busy going "did he actually just say that" to be appropriately pissed. |D

Oh oh ouch oh Skyfire you poor thing it hasn't got better now you've woken up. :( The description is fantastic. The chittering things made me physically twitch and the endless claustrophobia of it all - the dream images reflecting his physical state. Oh Skyfire.

I like that theory. Although it adds to the ouchies. Does Skyfire fear he's dreaming or hope he is?

In defiance of canon I like to imagine he and the Autobot scientists bonded in nerdery and had geeky scientist orgies in the labs in pursuit of SCIENCE. Cause. Yeah. *whimpers*

Thank you! And yes, Nostalgia is relevant to my interests. She's beautiful!
